프랭크 로이드 라이트의 “낙수장”을 재조형화 한 작품입니다. 낙수장을 조사하면서 가장 인상 깊었던 부분은 낙수장은 자연과 조화를 이루게끔 만들어졌지만, 자연의 형상에 반대되게 수평, 수직의 선적인 요소로 이루어졌다는 점이었습니다. 자연과 조화를 이루지만 동시에 모순적으로 선적인 부분이 인상 깊었습니다. 그래서 재조형화 할 때 ‘수평’을 포인트로 잡고 시작하였습니다. 입면의 수평적인 선을 극대화하고, 재조형화 된 형태를 위에서 바라봤을 때 기존 도면의 모양을 보여주는 것에 집중하였습니다.
테라스나 루버와 같은 선적인 요소들을 사용하려고 했습니다. 특히, 기존 루버의 형태에서 직선적인 느낌을 극대화하여 전체적인 수직, 수평적인 느낌을 극대화하였습니다. 루버의 형태가 주는 선적인 느낌이 그림자에서도 보이게끔 했습니다. 형태를 발전시키면서 수평적인 요소를 강조하기 위해 수평과 대비되는 수직적인 요소를 추가했습니다.
이 모델의 앞, 뒤, 왼쪽, 오른쪽, 위에서 바라본 형태는 낙수장 본래 도면의 형태에서 영감을 받았습니다. 수평적인 형태는 수직적인 요소와 그림자로 더 강조되어 보입니다.
The original building I reshaped was FALLING WATER. The most impressive feature about Falling Water was that it harmonizes with nature, but it paradoxically has a linear form that is contrasted with the natural form. So I decided to set the point of reshaping as ‘horizontal’. So I started from that point and tried to reshape it to maximize the horizontal form in the elevation. I also tried to express the shape of the original plan seen from the top of the reshaped form.
I tried to reshape it by using linear structures, such as terraces and louvers, as elements. In particular, I emphasized the vertical and horizontal feeling by emphasizing the straight line of the original form in the louvers, and made sure that this effect was expressed well in the shadows.
During the development process, vertical structures were added to emphasize the horizontal structure as a contrast, and depth was added to the shadows to express the contrast between horizontal and vertical in the shadows.
The most notable feature of this model is that the front, right, left, back, and top views are all inspired by the horizontal elements in the drawing, taking the form of the drawing, and the horizontal forms are emphasized as a contrast with the vertical in the physical model and shadows.
